Dear all,
Men's training has now finished until Wed January 2nd, it is resuming one week early as the 1st team have a re arranged fixture on January 5th 2013.
Some of you will need the extra training to work on tactics on how to beat (not a chance) the O40 vets side vs rest of club at 4pm on Jan 5th, we are proud of our 100% unbeaten record this season and we are not planning to relinquish this before the big game vs Reading
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Adrian Chambers
Very many congratulations to our 16 year old 1st team GK, Joe Avis who, following a fine performance for Wessex Leopards at the recent Futures Cup, has been selected in a squad of 32 for England training. This squad will be trimmed later in the season and Joe is competing with 2 other GK's for a spot in the England squad.
We wish him all of the very best with the training.
Yate U14s Girls played City of Bath this Sunday in an Avon League Match. The superb tempo and passing of the 10 man team totally dictated the play in the first half but they only lead 2-0 at the break. The goals started to come in the second half, we gradually wore down the City of Bath defence who struggled to get passed the Yate midfield when they tried to clear. The pick of the goals was a superb strike from Bronwen Jones from a short corner, however the persistence and determination of the front 3 (Seana Dando, Rachel Caul & Antonia Joy) ensured an emphatic win.
The defence and midfield should not be excluded in our congratulations as they all performed superbly in controlling the game and not giving City of Bath too many chances to break out from their half.
Congratulations to the whole team who, though 1 player down the whole match, totally controlled the game.
Yate U16 Girls enjoyed a comfortable victory over a determined Chippenham side this Sunday. In what was a pretty gloomy day the side clicked well in their 2nd match this season after a tight loss to City of Bath in their season opener and a walk over against Clevedon.
After a tight first half they reached the break 2-0 up after a couple of strikes from Antonia Joy and Lara Bathurst. Antonia had only just come on to the pitch to substitute for Rebekah Harris who received a bump to the chin. This did not seem to deter Bex as she returned for the 2nd half and scored a fine hat-trick. The pick of the goals was a wonderful move from back to front along the right hand side involving Lara Bathurst & Hannah Cullimore who crossed for Rebekah to add the finishing touch.
The team were well marshalled in defence with plenty of organisation and encouragement from Nicole Marks in goal, and a very steady display from Catherine Edwards, Victoria Bell, Rosa Ghaidan and Claudia Dark. The most exciting aspect is the development of the midfield who totally overwhelmed the Chippenham midfield with their doggedness and guile, hats off to Isabella Joy, Lara Bathurst, Jess Saunders and Megan Long.
The excitement and anticipation for the forthcoming 2012-2013 season gained a little more speed yesterday following the outstanding performance of the 1st XI Ladies. Playing against strong opposition from both Prem 1 and Prem 2, the ladies put together the set plays and plans we have been working so hard on over the past weeks and came away victorious...and we even won a cup and some vouchers!!!
The team performed magnificently throughout (even though we know there are some areas for us to work on) drawing the first game 2-2 and then winning the remaining four games without conceding a goal, scoring a further 8 goals in the process. This is a fresh looking team with much greater flexibility across the squad and we can be encouraged by our unbeaten start to the season, but the hard work really starts now and the team are all too aware of this...Not that I normally do this, but seeing as though it has been so long since we have lifted any form of tournament trophy in, well forever, a special mention to each and every one of our players on the day: Sal, Kim, Summer, Shannon, Stacey, Helen, Di, Char, Robbo, Robyn, Hol and Laura Beeley (and me!!)...and to our squad players/managers that couldn't be on the pitch with us but nevertheless make us work harder and be stronger each and every game - Maria, Psycho and Zo
Roll on league next week!!!

Most of you will already know that Haggis has been adopted by Scotland this year and that he was selected to play for the Scottish Over 40's Masters squad in this year's International tournament held at Canterbury.
I'm very happy to report that Haggis played in 5 matches for Scotland, scoring one goal and helping them reach the semi-finals of the competition, where they were defeated by Australia with the last hit of the match.
More importantly, Haggis became Chief BBQ chef during his week, managing to feed most of his fellow squad members (and the Scottish Over 45's) highly non-nutritional food.
Well done to McHag and expect to see him turn up for training / coaching in some Anzac kit.

Following the results in the Summer League last week, the 1st team are now confirmed as Champions of Division 2.
Congratulations to captain Tom Fowler and all the players in the Summer League 1st team, who gained promotion to Division 1 last night following a 6-2 defeat of Chipsters. Only one team - Rascals - can equal the boys on points and our goal difference is huge so it's highly likely that we will end up as Champions.
Special mention to Jordan who stepped in as Captain for a few games whilst Tom was away.
