Yate made hard work against local rivals Bristol and West in their penultimate league match. Yate started okay and created several chances in the opening quarter but poor execution ensured that the scores remained ties until Matt Child spotted an opening and charged into the D and let fly from the top of the 'D'. Bristol and West then came back into the match and had several opportunities to equalize before a well worked move saw them draw level. Joe Parker, a young player who is rapidly improving, then swung the match Yate's way by slipping into the 'D' and firing a superb reverse shot which gave the keeper no chance. The comments at half time were directed at moving the ball on quicker and being more clinical in the final third. There was a clear improvement in the second half with Pecker dominating the midfield with good support from Billy, Martin Weavers, Child and Parker. Several passing movements led to dangerous situations but that killer goal was lacking until Pecker swept in from the P spot - he then did a rather unfortunate goal celbration by falling flat on his face, much to the amusment of his colleagues. It was however a deserved goal by the best player on the pitch. Fordy and Josh Cullum went from defence to centre forward and both enjoyed their turn at the glory end of the pitch and it was left to Wiggy, Ian Refearn, Andy Bethell, Martin Emery and Myles Brock to do the dirty work at the back and limit the opportunities for the B & W forwards. A mention to Jordan Reed and Matt Bethell, who ran around and into space, caused all sorts of problems but didn't score - Jordan, you only ran 20 metres against Firebrands and scored 4 goals so less movement next week and more goals please !! Oh yes and remind me to ask the coaches to coach you in the art of tackling as well ! |
